WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard volleyball team will take the floor in Burr Gymnasium for just the second time this season against Loyola (Md.) on Tuesday, Sept. 13. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Bison are coming off a 4-0 weekend at the Penn Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa. with wins over George Mason, Penn, Lafayette and Bucknell. Howard only dropped a pair of sets and improved to 8-3 overall, its best start since the 2013 season. Junior Khaila Donaldson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by sophomore Tamia Dockery.
On Monday, Donaldson and Dockery earned Player and Setter of the Week honors, respectively, as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Senior Morgan Marlbrough was selected as Defensive Specialist of the Week to round out the trio.
Donaldson currently leads the MEAC with 3.85 kills per set, while Dockery paces the league on 9.41 assists/set. Marlbrough is averaging a second-best 4.44 digs/set. Sophomore Olubunmi Okunade has 50 blocks, which tops the standings and ranks 18th among the nation's statistics leaders.
Loyola went 1-2 at the Dog Pound Challenge over the weekend with its lone victory coming against Saint Francis (N.Y.). Ann Ernst paces the Greyhounds with 4.38 kills/set, which stands second in the Patriot League. She also had three matches with 23 or more kills.
The Greyhounds lead the all-time series against the Bison, 6-3. The two teams faced off last September where Howard fell, 3-0.
