The Lady Bison dropped both games against the Mt. Saint Mary's Mountaineers yesterday.
Game 1: Howard - 0, Mt. Saint Mary's - 6
In the first game, the Lady Bison played disciplined defense throughout the game after giving up three early runs. Howard hit the ball well, amassing 7 hits but not as well as they wanted as the hits couldn't be strung together to produce runs. Freshman Alannah Baiyina went 2-2 with two bunt singles and Senior Janessa Flynn was credited with the loss.
Game 2: Howard - 7, Mt. Saint Mary's - 11
The second game was a complete turnaround for the Lady Bison. They came out the gate hitting the ball, pouring in four runs in the first inning and two in the second. However, the Lady Bison didn't have enough to keep up with Mt. Saint Mary's. Howard was able to hold off the power hitting of the Mountaineers until the 3rd inning where they scored four runs coming off of a grand slam to tie the game at 6-6.
Howard responded in the top of the 4th inning to take the lead when back-to-back doubles by redshirt senior Al'Asia Davis and sophomore Brooklyn Emory drove in Davis. However that would be the last run for Howard as Mt. Saint Mary's scored three in the 4th and one in the fifth to take the game.
Redshirt Sophomore Deja Henderson went 3-3 with three doubles and a walk. Junior Imani Ballard went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Brooklyn Emory went 2-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
The Lady Bison look to rebound as they have a three-game series this weekend against the Norfolk State Lady Spartans. The games will be held at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.
