Bison Hope To Close Out Home Season With A Win

Washington, DC---The Howard University men's basketball team will look to close out the home season with a win as it hosts the Rattlers of Florida A&M University tonight at 7:30 pm in Burr Gymnasium. It will be Senior Night for the team.

The Bison (11-17, 5-8 in the MEAC) are coming off yet another disappointing setback  to South Carolina Stat at home on Monday. Howard, which has dropped seven of the last eight game, have had problems finishing games. James "J-Byrd" Daniel, III continued his sterling play with 24 points and Marcel Boyd added a double double, his 9th of the season, but the Bison had one of their worst free throw shooting performances and it costs them down the stretch.

Another area of concern has been foul trouble and the lack of production from the bench. Boyd and Damon Collins have both been plagued with foul problems the last two games and it has hurt the undermanned team. Daniel, the nation's leading scorer is averaging 27.6 points per game while Boyd is averaging close to a double double at 10.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per outing. Collins is at 10.2 points and almost 5 rebounds per contest. The reserves, which is comprised of freshmen and inexperience, has been outscored in all seven of those losses.

The Rattlers (8-18, 4-9 in the MEAC) are coming off a big 81-80 overtime road win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday that snapped a three-game losing streak. Florida A&M is led by Malcolm Bernard (14.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg). The Rattlers are not eligible for post-season play.

NEXT UP: Howard travels to Hampton, VA to take on the Pirates of Hampton University on Saturday at 4 pm.
