Bison Face Off Against UMES on ESPNU

PRINCESS ANNE, MD --- The Howard men's basketball team will be looking to rebound from a disappointing 83-63 loss at Morgan State on Saturday when it takes on the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Monday evening.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU and tips off at 7 p.m.

The Bison (10-11, 4-2 in the MEAC) had one of their worst outings of the season against Morgan State, as early foul trouble and a short bench impacted on the outcome. Adding to their woes, the Bison committed a season-high 25 turnovers.

James "J-Byrd" Daniel, III scored a season-low 18 points after being hounded by the Morgan State defense.  Daniel leads the country in scoring at 27.4 points per game. Junior center Marcel Boyd had a good game statistically but he was handicapped with early foul trouble.

Howard will have to get support for Daniel and Boyd from junior forwards Tyler Stone and Damon Collins and sophomore guard Dalique Mingo if they are to defeat the Hawks (6-16, 3-4 in the MEAC), who have won two in a row, the latest a two-point win at Coppin State on Saturday.

UMES is led by senior guard Devin Martin (16.4 points per game) and senior center Dominique Elliott (13.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg).  The matchup between Elliott and Howard's Boyd shapes up as one between the two premier centers in the conference.

The two teams have split their last four meetings and they have been very competitive.  In last year's game at Howard, the Bison prevailed, 83-74, but the Hawks returned the favor in Princess Anne, MD by overcoming a 20-point second half deficit and winning by 16.

The game has strong implications for the Bison who are trying to stay pace with Hampton and Norfolk State, the first and second place teams in the league standings. Incidently, Howard hosts Norfolk State on Saturday and Hampton on Monday.
