Howard Tries to End Skid

The Howard men's basketball team will be looking to snap its current three-game losing skid when it hosts Shenandoah University on Friday at 6 pm in Butt Gymnasium.

The Bison (1-8) dropped a 72-59 home decision to Jacksonville State at home on Wednesday in which it allowed the visitors to shoot lights out from the three-point arc.

It has been the team's Achilles heel during the current slide as the three opponents have combined to shoot 50 percent from there.  In each case, Howard played tough in the first half and early in the second until their opponents banged out shots from behind the arc.

Much can be attributed to the injury epidemic that the Bison have faced this season.  James "J-Byrd" Daniel, James "JT" Miller and Damon Collins, have all been in the system for three years and are very familiar ib the Bison match-up defense.  But the injuries has forced some reserves and new players who are not as familiar and it has proven to be detrimental

The good news is that Marcel Boyd returned to the lineup after missing two games and James "J-Byrd" Daniel, III (2 weeks) , James "JT" Miller (4 weeks) and Damon Collins (game by game) should all return in time for MEAC play.

Meanwhile, reserve players like senior guard Kofi Andoh, junior guard Dalique Mingo, freshman Charles "CJ" Williams, are all getting significant playing and at the same time, are getting more familiar with playing the defense.

In Shenandoah, Howard faces an opponents that relies heavily on guard play due to their lack of size.  The Hornets are led by Malcolm Clark, a 6-3 senior who leads the team in scoring (17.7) and in rebounding (7.8).  Reserve KaimonneDouglas (11.1 ppg) and Derrick King (8.8 ppg) add to the team's scoring.

NEXT UP: The Bison host Central Penn at 5 pm on Sunday in the Burr.
