Myles Has Career Night Against Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – Rookie Jayla Myles had a career night with 13 points and 15 rebounds as the Howard women's basketball team fell to Cornell, 67-55, on Tuesday night at Newman Arena.

The Bison are now 0-4 on the season, while the Big Red moves up to 4-1.

Myles recorded her first career double-double after cashing 5-of-8 shots and making 3-of-5 from the line. She crashed the boards to pull down a career-high nine defensive rebounds.

For the fourth consecutive game, redshirt senior Te'Shya Heslip topped the team in scoring with 17 points to go along with three steals, two rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Redshirt junior Erin Blaine finished the night with nine points and seven boards.

As a team, Howard went 12-for-16 (.750) at the free throw line and scored 29 points in the paint. The Bison also had 19 second chance points.

Howard had the lead twice in the first quarter on buckets by Myles and Heslip but Cornell quickly got in front. By halftime, the Big Red were up 34-23 and Myles had six points and nine rebounds.

Cornell opened the second half on a 16-8 run that gave the home squad its largest lead of the game, 50-31, in the third quarter. The Bison narrowed Cornell's advantage to eight points with 4:35 left in the game, 56-48, on a layup by Heslip but that's as close the visitors would get.

Howard outscored Cornell, 18-15, in the final 10 minutes of action.

The Bison will travel to Cincinnati on Saturday, Nov. 26 for a 5:30 p.m. game.
