BOONE, N.C.—The Howard men's soccer team dropped its first Sun Belt Conference matchup of the season to Appalachian State, 2-0, on Saturday night.
The Bison fell to 1-10-3 overall, while the Mountaineers moved to 4-5-2.
Appalachian outshot HU by a 15-5 margin. The Mountaineers also limited the Bison to a pair of corners kicks while they posted 11.
Redshirt senior Kenneth Hersey made his 14th start and spent 52 minutes in goal before being replaced by sophomore Carlos Caro after getting a red card. In his first appearance, Caro had one save and allowed both of Appalachian's goals.
Howard had five players with one shot apiece but junior Isaac Mbappe, sophomore Lloyd Pierre and freshman Javauni Garwood were the only ones to put their shots on goal.
Both of the Mountaineers goals were scored by Stephen Chapman. The first was on a penalty kick and the final tally came on a hard strike in the box.
The Bison travel to Bucknell on Tuesday, Oct. 11 for a 7 p.m. showdown.
