WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard volleyball team is back on the court in Burr Gymnasium for a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matches this weekend. The Bison will start on Friday, Oct. 28 with Norfolk State (6-16) at 7 p.m. before hosting Hampton (5-15) at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.
Sunday's outing will be a special one, as it will serve as Senior Day. Prior to the match, the Bison will recognize their six seniors; Janaya Hampton, Dominique Cleggett, Whitney Fields, Katherine Broussard, Briana Jackson and Morgan Marlbrough.
Howard (19-5) is looking to extend its nine-match win streak and keep its spotless MEAC record intact (8-0).
Last week, the Bison took down Maryland Eastern Shore in four sets before sweeping Delaware State. Thanks to their performances, junior Khaila Donaldson was named MEAC Player of the Week while sophomore Tamia Dockery earned Setter of the Week and Marlbrough was tabbed as Defensive Specialist of the Week.
It was a big weekend for Donaldson, who became the all-time program leader with 1,146 kills. She ranks among the nation's best in several statistical categories, including 31st in points (404.5), 32nd in points per set (4.70), 33rd in total kills (348) and 45th in kills per set (4.05).
Dockery's 835 total assists and 9.94 assists per set are the best marks in the MEAC. Marlbrough leads the conference with 359 total digs, while her 4.17 digs per set checks in a No. 2.
As a team, Howard has been skilled at stifling its opponent's offense. The Bison are third in the country in limiting opponent's hitting percentage, holding the opposition to a 0.134 efficiency.
NSU is heading into Friday's match with a 4-4 league mark. It will be the first meeting of the 2016 season between the Spartans and Bison after the initial match was cancelled due to severe weather.
Hampton brings a 4-5 conference record to the nation's capital. The Bison cruised past the Pirates in three sets when they faced off earlier this month.
