Washington, D.C. – Junior Noelle McCullom's hat trick helped the Howard women's soccer team kick off homecoming the right way and pick up its third straight win with a 6-0 victory over Grambling State on Friday night at Greene Stadium.
The Bison (11-4-2, 8-0-1 SWAC) overpowered the Tigers on offense with a season-high 26 shots and 10 corner kicks. GSU only tallied five shots and one corner.
Junior Kela Gray led the squad with five shots, followed closely by four attempts from McCullom. Junior Gabrielle Emilien recorded five saves in goal on her way to her sixth win of the season.
With 19:11 off the clock, sophomore Makela Davidson sprinted down the sideline and crossed the ball to McCullom in the box. McCullom jumped high for a perfect header to give Howard a 1-0 lead.
Six minutes later, McCullom once again had a great touch to set up Gray, who found the back of the net on the left side to go up 2-0.
The Bison kept the momentum going in the 37th minute. Senior Sandra Bond took Howard's 12th corner kick of the game and put it close enough to goal that GSU's net-minder Jennifer LeSage stepped up to punch the ball out of the box. Junior Jordan Bynoe controlled the rebound off the goalie's glove and sent the ball into the net for her first goal of the season.
Just five minutes into the second half, McCullom fired from 30 yards out to go top shelf for her eighth goal of the season and open the gap to 4-0.
Bynoe got the ball into McCullom in the box before she sent it flying into the top of the net for her third goal of the night.
Howard scored its final goal in the 86th minute after senior Taylor Ester sent the ball over to classmate Zion Clarke at the top of the box. Clarke finished off the play with a strike into the left corner.
The Bison are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 23 when it hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
