Kyle Celestine, the Howard men's soccer team began its 2015 campaign with a 5-1 setback at the hands of George Mason University on Friday evening at George Mason Stadium.
The second game on Day 1 of the Kuykenstrong DC College Cup went into halftime tied at 1-1 after Celestine, a 2014 College Sports Madness All-Sun Belt Second Team selection, put home a deflection by Mason goalkeeper Steffan Kraus in the 36th minute.
The two teams' shot totals were close in the first half (Mason led 6-4) but the Bison (0-1) struggled against Mason (1-0) after the break, conceding a 17-4 edge in shot opportunities - including four goals - to the Patriots in the second half.

WASHINGTON, DC --- Sophomore outside hitter Khaila Donaldson posted a team-best 10 kills while freshman setter Tamia Dockery & junior setter Briana Jackson each logged double-digit assists in the Bison's 3-0 (13-25, 11-25, 20-25) season-opening defeat to American University on Friday evening at Bender Arena.
In the opening game of the DC Volleyball Challenge, Donaldson paced Howard (0-1) with 11 total points (adding a service ace to her kill total). Including last season, Donaldson has logged 10 or more kills in all but three matches in her career (29 of 32).
Dockery led the Bison with 12 assists in her collegiate debut and Jackson added 10, her most in her two year Howard career.
Junior libero Morgan Marlbrough led Howard in digs with nine while juniors Janaya Hampton (one solo) & Dominique Cleggett (two assists) and freshmen Olubunmi Okunade (one solo) & Courtney Dalton (two assists) contributed to Howard's four team blocks.
Howard could not overcome playing its first game shorthanded as juniors Katherine Broussard and Whitney Fields were unavailable. The Bison struggled to consistently hit, failing to post a positive hitting percentage in two of three sets.WSOC - HOWARD 0, PRINCETON 6 | BOX SCOREPRINCETON, NJ --- For the first time since the final non-conference game of the 2014 season, the Howard women's soccer team suffered a shutout defeat, falling 6-0 to the Princeton University Tigers on Friday evening at Roberts Stadium.
The first-ever meeting between Howard (1-2) and Princeton (1-0) did not go as planned for the Bison as the reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champions failed to score a goal in a game for the first time since falling 3-0 to Delaware State in the team's 2014 non-conference finale on October 29.
Howard fell behind early, allowing three goals within the first 20 minutes, five in the first half alone and conceding advantages in shots (35-5) and corners (10-0).
