Women's Basketball Ends Season With MEAC Tourney Loss To Norfolk State

NORFOLK, VA --- Junior guard Imani Bailey and senior forward Cheyenne Brown each scored 15 points to lead Howard as it concluded its season with a 67-55 defeat at the hands of Norfolk State in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tournament Thursday afternoon at the Scope Arena.

The 12th-seeded Lady Bison (4-27) struggled to score out of the game, going nearly ten minutes before Brown scored the team's first basket and allowing a 13-0 NSU run in the process.

"It kills you," replied Howard Coach Tennille Adams, when asked about the team's scoring drought and overall lack of depth.  "You cut into the lead, you press but you still can't get over the hump.  It was like there was a lid on the basket on inside and outside shots.  It was just one of those nights."  Howard missed 22 of 31 in the first half and 48 of 71 for the game.

Howard was able to climb back in the game on the second half scoring of Bailey (who tallied 10 of her 15 after intermission), Brown and sophomore forward Sydni Johnson.  The Lady Bison twice cut the deficit to eight points - both times early in the second period - after trailing by as many as 15 in the game.  But Howard had no answer for NSU's Rae Corbo, who poured in a game-high 22 points. The Spartans' senior once scored 11 straight points and 13 of 15 in the second half to keep Howard at bay.

Bailey, Johnson, Brown and junior center Victoria Gonzales each posted game highs outside of scoring - Bailey dished out six assists with her 15 points while Johnson set a career mark with 14 rebounds in addition to her six points. Brown had three steals on her stat line in her final game as a Lady Bison and Gonzales had a game-high three blocks and nearly posted double figures, chipping in nine points.
