New Bison Logo Earns Top-5 Ranking on SportsLogos.net List

WASHINGTON, DC --- SportsLogos.net - a prominent website that covers branding & logos across the sports world - recently released its annual Logo of the Year Awards for 2015 and the new leading mark of Howard Athletics was ranked very high on its list.

The new Bison primary logo, which was unveiled on July 16 as part of Howard's full athletics rebranding, was selected as the No. 4 Best New Primary Logo of 2015. Howard's top athletics symbol finished behind the winning logo from the American Hockey League's Milwaukee Admirals, the second place mark from Eastern Illinois University and the third place entry from the West Virginia Black Bears minor league baseball club.

"We are honored to have been considered for the best logo award," said Deputy Director of Athletics Shelley Davis, who served as Interim Athletic Director during the logo creation process. "The rebrand was truly a team effort led by the university's branding committee, with input from students, alumni, and the campus community. CHIEF Brand Strategy was able to capture our vision for a logo demonstrating strength in a special design. Every time I see someone wearing the new mark, I get a sense of extreme pride."

Even more impressive is Howard's ranking on the list puts it second among the seven total NCAA schools in the top 49.

The Bison logo placed higher on the SportsLogos.net list than some prominent teams and programs:

-    2015 Eastern Conference Regular Season Champion Atlanta Hawks (No. 6)
-    DC's own Washington Wizards (No. 9)
-    MLS Cup Finalist Columbus Crew SC (No. 18)
-    West Point's Army Black Knights (No. 31)

Chris Lester, Principal & CCO of CHIEF - the agency tasked with creating the new Bison logos - was excited to hear of the accolade.

"It is such an honor to have worked with Howard University to build a Bison brand that brings its pride and strength to life. This award makes us tremendously proud. Go Bison!"
