TUCSON, AZ --- Senior center
Victoria Gonzales scored 14 points to lead the Howard women's basketball team in a 65-28 loss to the University of Arizona Wildcats on Wednesday evening at the McKale Center.
Gonzales went 4-for-13 from the field and 6-for-11 from the free throw line to open the season with her third consecutive double-digit performance. Gonzales ended up scoring half of the total points in the contest for Howard (0-3), displaying how vital her offense is to the team.
While Gonzales' efforts put her importance on display, the lack of offense from the team as a whole - four other players combined to score HU's other 14 points - proved to be the team's downfall.
Arizona (2-0) held the Bison to its lowest scoring output since November 11, 2011 when Howard was also held to 28 points by eventual 2012 national champion Baylor University. The Bison's six total field goals were its fewest since UConn limited Howard to nine made shots in a November 26, 2010 matchup in Connecticut.
NEXT UPHoward will make its season debut at home on Sunday, November 22 against LIU Brooklyn. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
