WASHINGTON, DC --- The 2015 regular season for the Howard women's soccer team ended Wednesday evening at Greene Stadium as the Bison and the Delaware State University Lady Hornets played to a scoreless tie on Howard's Senior Night.
The draw was the first of the season for Howard (11-7-1, 7-3 SWAC) and was also the first scoreless match the Bison played since the 2013 season opener at Longwood University (8/27).
Despite not earning a victory in the regular season finale, there were still positives to be taken from the matchup:
-Â Â Howard will go into the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament with the second-highest win total in program history - and one more than the 10 wins the 2014 Bison team carried into tournament play.
-Â Â The Bison offense outshot DSU, 22-7, with seniors
Rasheeda Ansari (five shots) and
Dytria Ruddy (four shots) outshooting the Lady Hornets by themselves (9-7).
-Â Â Freshman goalkeeper
Mackenzie Diotte played all 110 minutes and made four saves, putting her just four saves away from a 100-save season in her debut campaign.
-Â Â HU was able to play a strong Delaware State team (4-1-1 in its last six games prior) and stay sharp without affecting its standing in the SWAC Tournament next week (November 5-8).
NEXT UPHoward now must await its seeding & first opponent for next week's SWAC Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama. The Bison currently sit in third place with all other schools having to play their 10th conference contest. HUBison.com will have coverage of the Tournament soon.
