WASHINGTON, DC --- Despite a season high by junior center
Victoria Gonzales and a career best by sophomore forward
Sydni Johnson, the Howard University women's basketball team could not avoid their fourth straight defeat, a 77-64 loss to Morgan State University on Saturday afternoon at Burr Gymnasium.
Gonzales scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. She went 7-of-13 from the free throw line and added seven rebounds and an assist. The point total matched the second-highest plateau of her career, tying the 21 points she scored last season at home against Norfolk State on February 24, 2014.,
Johnson finished with 20 points, surpassing the 18-point mark she reached twice this season, the most recent occurrence coming just two games ago on the road against Florida A&M on January 24. Johnson was 7-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-8 at the charity stripe. She also nearly posted a double-double (nine rebounds) and added three steals and two assists while playing all 40 minutes.
Senior forward
Cheyenne Brown helped the cause by bouncing back from a scoreless outing to net 10 points and grab five rebound for Howard (2-18, 2-5 MEAC).
Outside of taking a 1-0 before the opening tip (Morgan was assessed an administrative technical four), the Lady Bison found themselves down to the Lady Bears the entire contest.,
