Women's Soccer Edged By Loyola In Overtime, 1-0

Box Score WASHINGTON, DC --- A late overtime goal was enough for the visiting Loyola University Greyhounds to escape with a 1-0 victory over the Howard women's soccer team in a non-conference matchup Friday evening at Greene Stadium.

Despite the loss, Howard (0-3) received exceptional play from senior goalkeeper Kyra Dickinson, who made 10 saves in the game and pulled off a number of difficult saves in the midst of 1-on-1 attacks.

The deciding score came in the 97th minute when Loyola's Maddie Boccio sent a corner kick into the box where it went from Nicole Wahlig to Jessica Van Dyke and into the goal.

Both senior goalies – Dickinson and Colleen Folan of Loyola (2-3) – played well in net, making timely and impressive saves when called upon. Overall, both teams held each other in check and took their offensive chances when the opportunities came.

Howard came close to breaking the scoring drought on several occasions. Its closest chance came as time expired in the first half.

A corner kick by sophomore Carmen Suarez with seconds remaining in the period led to a flurry of action in front of the goal. Senior Nia Walcott's shot with three seconds left was blocked by the Greyhound defense and freshman Noelle McCollum's rebound failed to reach the back of the net in time.

The Lady Bison will look to put tonight's setback behind them quickly as they host non-conference opponent Radford on Sunday, September 7 at Greene. First kick is scheduled for 2 p.m.
