Box Score WASHINGTON, DC --- Despite solid performances from sophomore outside hitter
Katherine Broussard and freshman outside hitter
Khaila Donaldson, the Howard women's volleyball team dropped a big 3-1 decision to UMBC on Friday evening in the team's home opener.
Broussard tied for the game high with 17 kills and eight digs while Donaldson logged nine kills and 16 kills. Senior setter
Stephanie Shultis picked up 36 assists on the night while senior libero
Allyson Lods posted a team-best 18 digs.
Without the services of seniors
Assata Conway and
Destinee Harrison due to injury, Howard (7-8) struggled to take advantage of a poor hitting day by UMBC (6-7). While the Lady Bison limited the Retrievers to a .148 hitting percentage, the team could only counter at a .097 clip themselves without two of their stronger hitters and defenders sidelined.
