Men’s Soccer Defeated By LIU Brooklyn In Home Opener

Box Score WASHINGTON, DC --- The Howard men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of LIU Brooklyn in the team'shome opener on Friday afternoon at Greene Stadium.

The defeat drops the Bison to 0-10-1 on the season while the Blackbirds (1-7) earned their first victory of 2014.

Howard played well in spots during their first match in Greene, showing great speed and elusiveness. Unfortunately, the team could not convert their opportunities into tangible offense.

The Bison began to play from behind early, as LIU's David Nuernberg scored the game's first goal in the 18th minute after an Isak Doumbia cross shot was knocked down by Howard senior goalkeeper Eric Hamilton in the direction of Nuernberg.

A long distance connection from LIU's Tanner Sica to Brice Merwine (47'), a 20-yard shot from Nahuel Medina (60') and a corner kick tip goal scored by Tyler Draovitch (81') provided the final scores for the Blackbirds.

Howard ended the game on a positive note, as senior defender Frederick Todd III netted his first goal of the season off of a 30-yard free kick.

The Bison Booters will return to action on Sunday, September 28 at home against Robert Morris. The game will serve as the 40th Anniversary of the Bison's 1974 NCAA Division I National Championship.
