Box Score 2 RALEIGH, NC --- The Howard women's volleyball team was swept in its final two games of the North Carolina State/Courtyard Midtown Invitational, losing a pair of 3-0 contests to Coastal Carolina and the host Wolfpack of NC State.
Howard (7-7) was represented on the All-Tournament team by senior
Assata Conway and sophomore
Katherine Broussard.

Khaila Donaldson each had 10 kills for the Lady Bison. Senior
Stephanie Shultis led Howard with 24 assists while sophomore
Morgan Marlbrough had 12 digs.
The Lady Bison took a 5-3 lead in the beginning stages of the first set but allowed Coastal to shift momentum thanks to a 15-7 run to put the Chanticleers up 18-12. HU would briefly cut the deficit to five (15-20) but could get no closer.
Howard battled with Coastal in set two, producing five ties and a 10-10 score nearly halfway through. However, HU committed three attack errors during a quick 5-0 CCU spurt that lead to the Chants finishing the set by outscoring the Lady Bison 15-8.
Outside of a 1-1 tie, Howard could not stay close to Coastal in set three, falling behind by seven at the midpoint of the set (6-13) and failing to shrink the deficit past three points the rest of the way.

Whitney Fields and Broussard each logged seven. Senior libero Allyson led Howard in digs (14) while Shultis rounded out HU's leaders with 29 assists.
The opening set of the match may have been the most thrilling of the day for Howard. The Wolfpack took a 6-2 lead over the Lady Bison and pushed it to 13-6 at mid-match. HU stood toe-to-toe with their ACC opponents and tied the game at 19-19 thanks to a 13-6 stretch of their own. Four points later, Howard tied the set again at 21-21 after a Shultis service ace. The Wolfpack, unfazed, found a way to take the next four points to win the set.
Howard held a lead over NC State for the first half of set two, with a kill from freshman
Jasmine Sasser making the score 12-10 in favor of the Lady Bison. Another long opponent stretch – this time a 5-0 run – put the Wolfpack ahead in the set for good and the Lady Bison in a 0-2 hole.
Set three saw Howard take a 7-5 advantage on a kill by Donaldson. NC State forced three ties after this point, getting the score to 9-9 before taking the lead for good and claiming the match.

Howard will come off of the road for the first time in their next game, a 7 p.m. home opener matchup with UMBC on Friday, September 26.
