Bison Booters Snap Losing Streak with Draw Against VMI

Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Howard men's soccer team may have turned a corner in its latest game as the Bison Booters recorded a  2-2 draw with Virginia Military Institute on Saturday afternoon.

Although the result only goes into the record as a tie, there were many positives that came from the match.

"We played very well today. We moved the ball and put ourselves in position to win the game," said Howard head coach Phillip Gyau on the team's performance today.

Never team was able to find the back of the net until the 35th minute when junior forward Warren Dennis took a long cross from sophomore Jordan Rice and sent a strike back across the net and in for a 1-0 Bison lead.

Six minutes later, the Keydets' Hunter Morgan tied the score on a chain connection from Brandon Hartman & Alec Rich. The game would remain tied at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Howard would regain the lead in the 59th minute after senior Raynard Storey scored his first goal of the season after capitalizing on a clearing error by VMI to give the Bison a 2-1 lead.

Their latest lead of the season lasted until the 79th, when VMI's Travis Borkley put a Alex Hartman cross home in the box to tie the match.

The even score was truly indicative of the matchup between the two teams: Howard only took two more shots than VMI (14-12); both teams put five shots on goal; and the Keydets took one more corner kick than the Bison (5-6).

Howard returns to action on Tuesday, September 23 when the Bison take on Liberty.
