Box Score NEW ORLEANS, LA --- The Howard women's volleyball team was crowned champions of the 13th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic after a four-set victory (25-11, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17) over Southeastern Louisiana University on Saturday morning.

Senior middle blocker Assata Conway was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player while sophomore outside hitter and Louisiana native Katherine Broussard was named to the All-Tournament team.

In Saturday's match, Howard (6-5) was paced by freshman outside hitter Khaila Donaldson's game-high 16 kills. Conway added 12 kills while hitting .357 and Broussard tied with sophomore Morgan Marlbrough for the team lead in digs with 13. Senior setter Stephanie Shultis finished the match with 39 assists.

Howard easily took set one over Southeastern (2-8) after opening up with a 10-3 lead and using a 11-1 surge to win the match, 25-11.The second set was a bit more competitive, as the two teams tied each other 10 times in the set - the last time at 10-10 - before grabbing the final four points for the 25-21 win and a 2-0 advantage.

The Lady Bison suffered a setback in set three, as Southeastern rode their improved play from the previous set to earn a 25-18 win after the game stood tied at 13-13.

Fortunately, Howard would adjust in set four and turned an early 4-4 tie into a 12-6 lead and eventually a 25-17 match-clinching set.

Conway had an outstanding tournament, finishing with the team's best hitting percentage (.404; min. 15 total attacks) while finishing first in blocks (29) and second in kills (45) in the team's three games. Broussard posted the third-highest kill total (26) for the Lady Bison while leading the squad in digs (42). Donaldson led the team in kills (46) and was second in digs (29). Shultis recorded 124 assists and was second in total blocks to Conway (15).

Howard will return to action next weekend in their final tournament of the regular season at North Carolina State University. The Lady Bison begin play on Friday, September 19 against William & Mary at 4 p.m.
