AMES, IA --- Senior forward
Cheyenne Brown led a quartet of Howard players to score in double figures, logging 20 points in an 80-68 loss to the Brown University Bears on Tuesday evening in the Iowa State Cyclone Challenge at Hilton Coliseum.
Junior center
Victoria Gonzales nearly notched her first double double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Gonzales also blocked more shots alone (three) than the Bears did as a team (two). R
edshirt sophomore guard Te'Shya Heslip added 12 points, six assists and five rebounds while junior guard Imani Bailey netted 10 points.A Brown steal and layup by Heslip gave Howard (1-13) the game's first basket but the Bears responded with a three pointer to take a one-point lead. Over the next 31 minutes, Brown (4-8) would extend its lead to as much as 11 points on three separate occasions, with the last coming at the 8:10 mark of the second half (60-49).
The Lady Bison fought back with one of their most aggressive stretches of the season. HU went on an 13-4 run over the next two minutes, with attacks on the basket resulting in over half the points (seven of 13) coming from the free throw line.
Unfortunately, the team couldn't complete the comeback, as Brown scored 20 seconds after Howard's last basket in the run to set off a 16-6 surge of their own to end the game.
