Savannah, Ga---
Greg McGhee passed for 318 yards and four TDs and
William Parker had another outstanding game, rushing for a career-high 175 yards and two touchdowns to lead Howard University to a 51-21 win over Savannah State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at Ted A. Wright Stadium.
Â
The win marked the first time that the Bison (3-7, 2-5 MEAC) have won two in a row this season and it is the most points scored in a game.
Â
Parker, who was coming off a personal best 151 yards in the win over Delaware State, set the tone early when he capped off a 60-yard drive with a one-yard burst at the 5:26 mark in the first quarter.
Â
The Tigers (0-10, 0-7 MEAC) countered when Tino Smith weaved his way 57 yards through the Bison defense on their ensuing possession to tie the game 7-all with 3:33 on the clock.
Â
From there, Parker and McGhee took over. First it was Parker, who found a seam in the Tigers defense and raced 62 yards for the longest run of his career. It gave Howard the lead at 14-7 with 2:47 left in the first quarter.
Â
The Bison would tack on two points when the Savannah State long snapper sent the ball over the punter's head and out of the end zone.
Â
Then McGhee began to find receivers and took his team 80 yards in six plays with Terrance Tusan catching a short pass from McGhee for the touchdown.
Â
McGhee then engineered another long drive, this one of 82 yards in nine plays. He finished it off with a nine-yard strike to
Richard Aiyegoro.
Â
The Tigers made it interesting when Tino Smith found Jeremiah Harris from six yards to cut the deficit to 30-14 at the half.
Â
Richard Williams helped the Tigers get even closer when he ran 36 yards for touchdown following a McGhee interception that set up the score.
Â
The McGhee put together another drive, this one 79 yards in 12 plays. The senior signal caller from Pittsburgh, Pa found Matt Colvin for a nine-yard TD pass. It was Colvin's first TD catch of the season.
Â
Less than three minutes later, McGhee would toss his fourth of the day, this time to
Myles Williams from 12 yards.
Â
For the game, McGhee was 28 of 45, 318 yards. He is now 268 yards shy of the MEAC career record for total offense, held by
Ted White. He completed passes to nine different receivers.
Â
Parker averaged almost eight yards per carry while also catching a career-high six passes for 58 yards.
Â
Aiyegoro, who has played well late in the season, caught seven passes for 67 yards, returned three punts for 54 yards and returned a kickoff for 18 yards.
