Duquesne Sends Women's Basketball to Fourth Straight Loss

WASHINGTON, DC --- The Howard women's basketball team saw its season-opening losing streak extend to four games after the Lady Bison fell 89-63 to the Duquesne University Dukes on Tuesday evening at Burr Gymnasium.

Senior forward Cheyenne Brown and freshman guard Hannah Timmons each scored 10 points for Howard (0-4). Brown is the only Howard player to score in double figures in each game this season, while Timmons scored in double digits for the first time in her career. The Lady Bison had a balanced scoring effort, as eight of the nine players to see action in the contest scored at least six points.

Unfortunately, the frequency of their scoring dropped in the second half while Duquense (1-3) increased theirs.

A jumper by redshirt sophomore Te'Shya Heslip's put Howard up three (31-28) with 1:48 left in the first half. Duquesne used a quick 6-2 run to close the half with a 34-33 lead. Still, Howard put up solid percentages in the period: 44.8 percent (13-of-29) from the floor; 50 percent (3-of-6) from three-point range; and 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the line. Though Duquesne shot 50 percent from the field (14-of-28) and 85.7 percent from the line (6-of-7), the Lady Bison were in position to surpass the Dukes in the second half.

Duquesne, however, would have other plans. The Dukes opened the second on a 11-2 run and outscored Howard 32-12 over the first 10 minutes of the second half to push their lead past the 20-point threshold.

Howard's shooting percentage dropped (36 percent) with fewer shots made (9-of-25) and the Lady Bison missed all five of their three-point attempts, while Duquesne shot 52.8 percent (19-of-36) from the field.

The Lady Bison did go 12-of-20 (60 percent) from the line, but their increased free throw numbers were negated by Duquesne's (12-of-14) and trumped by the Dukes' perfect 5-of-5 second half from distance.

NEXT UP: Howard will travel to Northern California for the St. Mary's College Hilton Concord Classic from November 28-29. The Lady Bison will face the host Gaels on Friday at 5 p.m. ET and the University of Wyoming at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
