VESTAVIA HILLS, AL --- Playing in its first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup as the home team, the Lady Bison women's soccer team improved to 3-0 in the conference with a 1-0 victory over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Friday evening.
Â
Having to host a league opponent at a venue away from DC and traveling the same day proved to be of little consequence to Howard, who outshot AAMU 11-7 in the game and controlled much of the offensive action in the match.
Â
The game's lone goal came in the 17
th minute when
Nikanya Clark took a pass on the left side and booted a cross to a running
Nia Walcott for the score. Walcott's tally was her team-best fifth of the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Natasha Moore earned the first victory of her career in the contest. Starting in place of senior
Kyra Dickinson, who missed the game due to a family obligation, Moore made four saves and recorded the team's second shutout of the year.
Â
With the victory, Howard matched its longest winning streak (4 games) during head coach
Brent Leiba's six year tenure.
Â
Howard will look to sweep the weekend when they return to action on Sunday, October 5 to face Alabama State in a 12 noon matchup.
