DOVER, DE --- The Howard women's soccer team concluded its 2014 regular season by suffering a 3-0 non-conference defeat at the hands of Delaware State on Tuesday evening at Alumni Stadium.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Howard (10-9-1, 9-1 SWAC) and dropped the Lady Bison's final non-conference record to 1-8-1. For Delaware State (4-12-1), the win was its first against Howard since 2012.
For Howard, the loss matched the Lady Bison's most lopsided defeat of the season, a 3-0 shutout by American on September 10. The team's defense may have been compromised by the loss of senior starter
Jeseca Hinds, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
The setback does nothing to derail what the team has in store: the #1 seed in the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament, being held in Huntsville, Alabama from November 6-9. One victory will set the Howard program record for victories in a season, two wins will put the conference title game and three wins will add the SWAC Tournament championship to the team's regular season crown.
