Howard Looks For Homecoming Victory Over Florida A&M

Washington, DC—A lot will be on the line when Howard University hosts Florida A&M University.  The Rattlers (1-5, 1-1 MEAC) will be looking to extend their current win streak while the Bison (1-6, 0-4 MEAC) will attempt to end the current four-game losing skid and notch their first MEAC victory.

An expected sellout homecoming crowd is sure to add extra excitement to the game which will kick off at 1:05 pm in Greene Stadium.

Florida A&M, which has had problems scoring all season, had its best offensive output of the season in a 24-14 home win over Savannah State last Saturday.  The Rattlers have an added incentive for the game as Howard has spoiled their last two homecomings.  Although FAMU has dominated the series (27-9), the Bison have won three in a row.

Howard was competitive early in its 49-12 loss at Bethune Cookman last Saturday, but a meltdown and some costly mistakes caused the Bison to become unhinged and allow the game to get away from them in the second half.

The game features two of the top quarterbacks in the MEAC, FAMU's Damien Fleming and Howard's Greg McGhee.  They are both seniors and they have both been cited as preseason players of the year in past seasons.

"Damien Fleming a very talented quarterback," said Howard head coach Gary "Flea" Harrell.  "He can beat you with his arm or his legs.  We will definitely have to pay attention to him by mixing up our defenses and trying to keep him off balance."

Added Earl Holmes, the Florida A&M head coach on McGhee.  "He is a very talented quarterback.  He is the engine that makes them go.  He has good size, he can throw the ball and he can beat you with his legs.  We are going to have to try to contain him, keep him in the pocket and assign a spy to him.  He is the one player in this league that has the ability to beat you by himself."

NEXT UP: FAMU will travel to Greensboro, NC next Saturday to take on the Aggies of North Carolina A&T in their homecoming at 1 pm while the Bison will have a much-needed bye before resuming play on November 1 when they host Delaware State at 1 pm in Greene Stadium.
