PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --- Freshman forward
Whitney White scored a late second half goal to give the Howard women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Prairie View A&M on Friday evening at Lady Panthers Field.
The win by Howard (7-8-1, 6-1 SWAC) gives Head Coach
Brent Leiba the most single season victories in his career at The Mecca and keeps HU within striking distance of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season title. The Lady Bison currently sits in second place behind Southern - the only SWAC team to defeat them.
After 80-plus minutes of scoreless soccer, Howard finally got past Prairie View (6-7-1, 5-1-1 SWAC) in the 88th minute. A Lady Tigers turnover found its way onto the foot of freshman midfielder Noelle McCullum, who sent a quick through pass to White for an eight-yard strike. White's goal and McCullom's assist were each the first of their careers (White already had an assist this season).
Senior goalkeeper
Kyra Dickinson made six saves on the night - twice as many as her PVAMU counterpart Bianca Garza.
Winners of seven of eight, Howard has completely turned the tide on its early season struggles. After going 1-5 in its six nonconference one-goal games, the Lady Bison have won three of four of those same games.
Howard will return to action on Sunday, October 19 with a 3 p.m. Eastern showdown with Texas Southern.
