Box Score WASHINGTON, DC --- A back and forth battle between the Howard University women's soccer team and the Wagner Seahawks extended past regulation, but HU's valiant effort came up just short as the Lady Bison fell to the Seahawks in overtime, 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Greene Stadium.
Howard (1-2-1) found itself down 0-1 after allowing a goal early in the 8
th minute, but responded with a score of their own eleven minutes later on a
Nia Walcott-to-
Zion Clarke connection. The score came on a midfield breakaway by Walcott and a perfect lead pass through two defenders to Clarke, who scored from the top of the box.
In the second half, HU found themselves in a similar situation – down a goal after a Wagner score in the 67
th minute. Yet once again, the Lady Bison struck back, as freshman
Elaina Ringo tied the game in the 87
th minute after a Howard corner kick led to a scrum in front of the goal and an easy goal chance.
Unfortunately, as the game transitioned into overtime, the Lady Bison would not have the opportunity to fight back after a Wagner goal. A Seahawk corner kick header in the 96
th minute ended the game and Howard's chance to win back-to-back games for the first time in over a year.
Despite the loss, goalie
Kyra Dickinson continued her stellar play this season, registering a season-high 11 saves. Through four games, the junior is sporting a 0.93 GAA and a .882 save percentage.
Howard will conclude its four-game home stand on Sunday, September 8 with a matchup against Robert Morris University at 1:00 PM.
