Box Score Fairfax, VA---Wes Sever scored on a penalty kick at the 85:43 mark to lift George Mason to a 1-0 win over Howard University in the DC Cup Classic at George Mason Field.

When you look at the statistics, the match should have been a blowout by the Patriots for all intents and purposes. GMU (1-0) held a huge advantage in shots, 18-0 and in corner kicks, 13-1. But the Bison showed resiliency and hung tough with the hosts until Sever's which spoiled a brilliant effort by Howard goalkeeper Eric Hamilton, who recorded a career-high 10 saves.

The Bison (0-1) have to regroup quickly as they face George Washington on Sunday at 5 pm.
