Chevonne Mansfield is a senior athletics executive with 18 years of progressive leadership experience, spanning NCAA Division I athletic departments, conference offices and national higher education organizations. She currently serves as Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Howard University where she oversees budget and financial operations, external units including marketing, communications, ticket operations, fan engagement and multimedia rights and serves as a liaison to university offices, including Student Affairs, Title IX, Risk Management and Development & Alumni Relations.
Mansfield's foundation is rooted in more than a decade of external communications leadership across some of college athletics' most influential institutions. She began her career at Howard University as assistant sports information director before ascending through communications roles at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), the Southeastern Conference (SEC) during its landmark expansion era and the American Conference.
Her career later expanded into national policy and advocacy work. As Communications Director for the LEAD1 Association, now known as the FBS Athletic Directors Association, which represents the athletics directors and programs of the Football Bowl Subdivision, Mansfield helped shape how the rules of college sports were enacted and implemented, leveraging executive communications and government relations to build influence with key constituencies and policymakers. She also worked at the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) as Senior Director of Strategic Communications where she developed overall vision and implemented marketing plans that drove TMCF toward increased brand recognition within the influencer and media community. During her time with TMCF, Mansfield also worked with McKinsey & Company to launch the HBCU Transformation Project, deepening her commitment to advancing equity for HBCU students.
Prior to returning to Howard, Mansfield served as Interim Athletics Director at Florida Memorial University, leading the department during the COVID-19 pandemic, making her one of a small number of senior administrators with direct experience leading an athletics department.
She is a graduate of the Dr. Charles Whitcomb NCAA Leadership Institute and the Women Leaders in Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement. Mansfield has served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University's Master in Professional Studies Sports Industry Management program since 2019.
A native of Long Island, New York, Mansfield holds a bachelor's degree from St. John's University (NY) and a master's degree from University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She is
pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies at Howard University. Her research centers on Black economic mobility, the racial wealth gap and NIL access facing HBCU student-athletes relative to their Power Four peers.
