In 2024, Tory Woodbury was named tight ends coach & special teams coordinator for the Howard University football team where he brings a wealth of experience, passion for the game and dedication to community engagement will make a significant impact on our program and the lives of our student-athletes.

Woodbury's journey in football began with an illustrious eight-year professional playing career where he showcased his versatility as both a quarterback and special teams ace. With stints in the NFL playing for esteemed franchises, such as the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills, as well as in the Arena League with the New Orleans Voodoo and Carolina Speed, Woodbury's on-field expertise is unmatched.

During his time with the Jets (2001-03), Woodbury demonstrated his prowess on special teams by playing on all four phases, earning recognition with multiple Special Teams Player of the Week awards and even blocking a punt. His ability to excel in various roles further solidified his reputation as a dynamic player.

Transitioning from player to coach in 2007, Woodbury embarked on a new chapter in his football career. He began coaching at the high school level in his hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, before moving to collegiate and professional coaching roles. Woodbury's coaching journey included positions at institutions, such as Delaware State University, Johnson C. Smith University and, most recently, with the Los Angeles Rams.

In addition to his tenure with the Rams, where he contributed to the team's victory in Super Bowl XLVI (56) in 2022, Woodbury's coaching experience extends to the professional ranks of the XFL. From January 2023 to September 2023, he served as the Special Teams Coordinator for both the XFL Houston Roughnecks in Houston, Texas, and the XFL St. Louis Battlehawks in St. Louis, Missouri.

Off the field, Woodbury's commitment to community service is remarkable. He founded the Tory Woodbury Foundation in 2002, dedicated to providing essential resources, such as school supplies, clothing and meals for underprivileged children in Winston-Salem, as well as organizing Thanksgiving dinners for the elderly.

Woodbury's collegiate career at Winston-Salem State University was marked by excellence where he set numerous school records, including passing yards (4,493), completions (648), touchdowns (38) and total offense (5,527 yards). His academic achievements were equally impressive, culminating in a bachelor's degree in sport management.
