WASHINGTON (January 31, 2026) – Howard University men's swimming & diving turned in a dominant showing Saturday afternoon, defeating Catholic University of America, 187–81, in a nonconference dual meet at Burr Gymnasium to close out the regular season.
Howard opened the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as Adam Diaz (Manhattan, N.Y.), Mark Brown (Greensboro, N.C.), Ameer Bashir (Hartley, Del.) and Darien Williams (Philadelphia) combined for a first-place time of 1:57.14.
Distance standout Jack Barr (Nassau, Bahamas) delivered one of the top performances of the night, winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:12.70 before adding another victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.67.
Howard controlled the sprint events, highlighted by Brown capturing the 50-yard breaststroke in 28.92 while Taj Benton (Baltimore) won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.20. Ty Triche (Humble, Texas) followed with a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 50.80.
The Bison continued to rack up wins in the stroke events. Bashir earned the victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.83 while Williams claimed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:02.63. Howard also picked up victories in the 50-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly.
Howard closed the meet with a strong finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the quartet of Benton, Williams, Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Ibrahima Diouf (Arlington, Va.) posted a winning time of 3:11.23, sealing the team victory.
Next, the Bison head to Geneva, Ohio where they compete in this year's NEC Championship (February 17-20).
