NORFOLK, Va. (January 21, 2026) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its women's track & field awards where Howard University had two Bison acknowledged for their performances at the HBCU Showcase (Jan. 17). The announcement came Wednesday afternoon.
Senior thrower
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) won Field Athlete of the Week while junior sprinter
Yahnari Lyons (Hampton, Ga.) took home Track Athlete of the Week.
Banwo claimed gold in the weight throw with a MEAC-best mark of 17.82 meters.
For Lyons, the Georgia native won the 200-meter dash with a MEAC-best time of 23.68, ranking 17
th nationally.
DMV native sophomore
Drew Dillard (Silver Spring, Md.) earned honorable mention on the men's side, grabbing gold in the 60-meter hurdles with a MEAC-best time of 7.87, ranking 44
th nationally.
Coppin State senior Solomon Hammond was selected as MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week while Norfolk State sophomore Jaymes Saunders earned the league's Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
On Jan. 23-24, HU goes back to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) for the Penn 10 Elite, hosted by the Quakers.
