NEW CASTLE, Del. (January 18, 2026) – Howard University women's bowling team returned from the winter break, grabbing five wins at the annual Northeast Classic (Jan. 16-18), by Sacred Heart University in New Castle, Del.
On Day One (Jan. 16), HU faced three top 15 opponents in Baker competition and came away empty: No. 6 Wichita State (1,142-739); No. 11 Sacred Heart (980-837) and No. 2 Vanderbilt (1,036-806).
Despite the setbacks, Howard closed out the day with a 932-748 win over Holy Family.
The next day (Jan. 17), HU battled three top 20 squads in traditional competition where they fell just short in all three showdowns: No. 3 Arkansas State (876-776); No. 12 Wright State (946-796) and No. 19 McKendree (849-811). Senior
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago) led the charge against McKendree, recording 228 total pinfalls in the loss.
Howard rallied and finished the day with a pair of victories against St. Thomas Aquinas College (729-577) and Wilmington (Del.) (870-758). Senior
Sydney Allison (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and junior
Simone Ashford (Chicago) spearheaded the win over Wilmington, registering total pinfalls of 183 and 190, respectively.
Sophomore
Kira Taylor (Hockley, Texas) competed in all five traditional matches, tallying 820 total pinfalls, including 185 against No. 19 McKendree.
Sunday (Jan. 18), Howard wrapped up the weekend with three Baker best-of-seven matchups.
After falling to Robert Wesleyan in five, 4-1, the Bison rebounded with a victory over Wilmington in six, 4-2. HU closed out the day with a thrilling 4-3 win against Robert Wesleyan.
Jacksonville State won the 2026 Northeast Classic, one the largest tournaments in the country. The No. 1 team in the nation defeated Vandy in five games, 4-1.
On Jan. 23-25, HU goes to Woodbridge, Va., for the Hawk Classic, hosted by rival Maryland Eastern Shore.
