Men’s Swimming & Diving Falls at VMI

Brown, Wilson lead the way in setback

LEXINGTON, Va. (January 16, 2026) — Howard University men's swimming & diving team fell on the road at VMI, 214-85, in Lexington, Va.
 
Despite the setback, HU grabbed a pair of individual victories.
 
On the board, sophomore Zion Wilson (San Antonio) finished first in the 1-meter dive after scoring 264.38 points. The San Antonio native also competed in the 3-meter dive where he placed third overall (238.95).
 
In the pool, second-year Bison Mark Brown (Greensboro, N.C.) came away victories in the 100 Breast, clocking in at 56.44. He also took part in the 50 Breast, earning silver with a 25.88 mark.
 
Brown and junior Ameer Bashir (Hartley, Del.) grabbed second (1:57.07) and third (1:57.40), respectively, in the 200 IM.
 
Senior Daren Rodgers (Chicago), juniors Adam Diaz (Manhattan, N.Y.) and Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Jalen Stewart (New Castle, Del.) represented Bison Nation in the 200 Free Relay, taking second place with a 1:24.65 time. The Chicago native also competed in 50 Free, landing third overall on the individual board with a 21.78 mark.
 
Diaz and Bashir claimed silver (24.26) and bronze (24.57), respectively, in the 50 Back. The New York product found success in the 100 Back, recording a 53.23 mark while finishing third.
 
Green competed individually in the 50 Fly and 100 Free, placing second (22.46) and third (45.74), respectively.
 
Diaz, Green, Rodgers and rookie Ayrton Moncur (Nassau, Bahamas) opened the afternoon with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, registering a time of 1:33.75. Moncur also took part in the 100 Fly, securing bronze with a 50.79 mark.
 
Other noteworthy performances included senior Darien Williams (Philadelphia) grabbing third (1:42.86) in the 200 Free and freshman standout Solomon Goins (Dallas) earning bronze (4:54.48) in the 500 Free.
 
On Jan. 31, HU faces Catholic on Senior Day. First race is scheduled for 1 p.m.
