Bison Unable to Keep Up with Owls

PHILADELPHIA (September 6, 2025) - Howard University football team spotted Temple 21 points and played catchup the rest way as the Bison fell to the Owls in a nonconference game at Lincoln Financial. Field.

Howard (1-1) dropped its first decision of the season while Temple improved to 2-0 overall.

The Owls set the tone early, using its vaunted running game to move the ball against the Howard defense. The Owls took the opening drive and marched 72 yards in nine plays using almost five minutes off the clock and capping off the drive with a 13-yard TD run.

The Howard offense, which had problems sustaining drives all day, went three and out on its next possession and Temple capitalized by using the same formula on its second drive, this time six-play 63-yard drive that consumed almost five minutes, capping it off with a 24-yard touchdown pass.

With the Bison still unable to get anything going, the Owls continued to use their balanced attack with a drive.

Using a mix of some execution by Howard quarterback Tyriq Starks (Carol City, Fla.), the Bison put together its longest drive of the season, going 75 yards in 12 plays and capped off by a 1-yard TD pass from Starks to tight end KD Mosley (Laurens, S.C.).

But Temple quelled any comeback attempts by adding a field goal to push the lead to a three-possession game, 24-7.

From there, Temple controlled the lines of scrimmage, rushing for 329 yards and passing for 231 yards.

The Bison, who were coming off a 175-yard offensive effort in the win over FAMU (Florida A&M), was held to 121 yards of total offense by the Owls.

Saturday (Sept. 13), the Bison again take to the road when they take on the Maroon Tigers in the annual HBCU NYC Football Classic. Kickoff at 1 p.m. The game will be played at MetLife Stadium and will be aired on HBCUGo.

The Owls will host No. 18 Oklahoma Saturday (Sept. 13) at noon.
