DURHAM, N.C. (May 17, 2025) – Howard University softball's record-setting season came to an end at the NCAA Durham Regional with Saturday afternoon's 9-1 loss to Coastal Carolina in five innings.
Senior Alyssa Vasquez (Eastvale, Calif.), who went 2-for-2 at the plate, opened the scoring by hitting her first home run since freshman year to put the Bison ahead, 1-0.
The Chants joined the board in the second inning before posting runs in each inning thereafter.
Four Bison notched hits in the final game of the year: Vasquez; graduate Bri Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) and seniors Kenna Higa (Honolulu) and Payton Quinonez (Tulare, Calif.).
On the mound, all-conference pitchers graduate Ameenah Ballenger (Lansdown, Pa.) and junior Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) both spent time in the circle, along with senior Mia Gonzales (Atwater, Calif.), who struck out two batters in her two innings pitched.
The double elimination loss closes the Bison's season with a 31-20 overall record.
