Women’s Track & Field Displays Dominance at the Seahawk Shootout

Bison put on a show with seven victories

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (December 13, 2025) – Howard University women's track & field team put on a show at the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner College, scoring seven victories.
 
Freshman standout Alexis Jones (New Windsor, N.Y.) highlighted the day with a new school record in the 1-mile run, winning the race at 4:54.89. She broke the previous mark set last weekend by the New York native in Boston (4:55.80).
 
Senior Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburg, N.C.), juniors Yahnari Lyons (Hampton, Ga.) and Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and rookie Nilijah Darden (Greensboro, N.C.) represented Bison Nation in the 4x200 relay, earning first place with a 1:37.85 time.
 
Lyons, graduate Marcia Sey (London, United Kingdom) and junior Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) swept the 60-meter dash podium, placing first (7.55), second (7.62) and third (7.65), respectively.
 
Freshman Gabrielle White (Silver Spring, Md.), sophomore Lindsay Johnson (Detroit) and senior Lauren Thompson (Frisco, Texas) took home gold (8.48), silver (8.49) and bronze (8.55), respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles.
 
Senior Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) won the 300-meter dash with a 39.29 mark.
 
Other noteworthy performance on the track included junior Kendall Robinson (Bowie, Md.) placing second overall in the 600-meter run (1:37.26).
 
In the field, reigning MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Women's Field Athlete of the Week senior Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) grabbed a pair of gold medals in the shot put (13.49 meters) and weight throw (17.23 meters). Sophomore Kinnidi Hampton also competed in the shot put, finishing second behind Banwo (12.31 meters).
 
Senior Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) landed second overall in the long jump after leaping 5.67 meters.
 
On Jan. 9-10, HU returns to action for the Rod McCravy Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
