RALEIGH, N.C. (March 22, 2024) – Howard University women's bowling team advanced to Day Two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship after outlasting UAB in an elimination bout at the Buffaloe Lanes North in Raleigh, N.C.
HOWARD 2, UAB 1
After falling to top-seeded and MEAC Champion North Carolina A&T State (NCAT), HU found itself trailing early on to the Blazers. UAB defeated the Bison in traditional play, 885-713, and took a 1-0 match lead.
Down, but not out, Howard rallied to win the Baker match, 891-845, and forced a Baker best-of-seven showdown. Third-year Bison
Ryleigh Ferguson (Stafford, Va.) led the charge, rolling a 203 for the Bison.
In a win-or-go-home scenario, Howard rose to the occasion, dominating the best-of-seven match, 4.5-1.5. Freshman
Kayla Mitchell (Wasilla, Alaska) and second-year Bison
Janae Pugh (Chicago) spearheaded the attack, recording 197 and 226, respectively, while eliminating the Blazers.
All-MEAC selection Madison Colston led the Blazers with a 212 performance during traditional competition.
HOWARD 0, #5 NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE 2
HU opened the tourney against national champion contender NCAT.
North Carolina A&T State, led by MEAC Player of the Year Lauren Tomaszewski, cruised to victory in traditional competition, 1,054-822. Sophomore
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago) led the Bison, rolling 198 in the match.
In Baker play, Tomaszewski and Melanie Katen each produced a 258 to down the Bison. Ferguson and fellow classmate
Sydney Allison (Ypsilanti, Mich.) recorded a 188 and 189, respectively, in the loss.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
With the victory, HU faces Norfolk State in another elimination contest. The action starts at 9 a.m.
