GREENSBORO, N.C. (February 25, 2024) – Howard University women's bowling team secured five victories at the Stalling Invitational, hosted by rival No.4 North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT).
Despite going 5-8 during the three-day tourney, HU wrapped up the weekend strong with three straight wins in Baker best-of-seven matchups.
Howard opened Sunday (Feb. 25) with a 4-3 victory over Texas Southern, followed by a 4-2 win against conference rival Norfolk State. HU topped Belmont Abbey College in five, 4-1, to finish the event.
In traditional play (Feb. 24), All-MEAC honoree
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago) led the way, rolling 891 (178.2 avg.) in five matches, including 200-game versus No. 12 Tulane (TU). Fellow Chicago natives rookie
Simone Ashford and
Janae Pugh also had solid performances against the Green Wave, producing 212 and 197, respectively. HU fell to TU, 898-939, despite the trio's effort.
HU's lone win in traditional competition came against UAB, knocking off the Blazers, 793-730. In that contest, second-year Bison
Sydney Allison (Ypsilanti, Mich.) recorded a 181 performance.
Friday (Feb. 23), the Bison picked up a victory versus Florida A&M, 693-457.
On March 15-17, HU closes out the regular season at the Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
