GENEVA, Ohio (February 20, 2024) – Howard University swimming & diving scored big during opening night of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships.
HU men hold the top spot after scoring 67 points while the Bison women sit in fourth place with 52 points.
Third-year Bison
Jordan Walker (San Antonio, Texas) highlighted the night with a victory in the 3-meter dive, earning a score of 244.95. Fellow classmate
Cyrus Gibson (Ocala, Fla.) also competed, finishing fourth overall (155.20).
In the pool, graduate
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas), senior
Tristan Stevens (Chicago), junior
Tai Afrik (Holland, Mich.) and rookie
Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) took part in the 800 Free Relay, securing the bronze medal with a 6:44.24 time.
On the women's side, junior
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) and sophomores
Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Ariz.),
Kali Garcia (Altamonte, Fla.) and
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) represented Bison Nation in the 800 Free Relay, scoring 52 points with a fourth-place finish (7:30.95).
Wagner (WC) trails the Bison men after Day One (57 points), but WC women grabbed the upper hand with a win in the 800 Free Relay (64 points).
HU continues competition Wednesday (Feb. 21) with prelims at 10 a.m., followed by the final round at 6 p.m.
