MOUNT JOY, Pa. (February 11, 2024) – Howard University women's bowling team had its best weekend of the season, earning five wins at the Mount Shootout, hosted by No. 17 Mount St. Mary's. The three-day tournament (Feb. 9-11) took place in Mount Joy, Pa.
HU opened the weekend with a victory over Kutztown in Baker play, 827-805, but dropped its next four matches, including three contests against top 25 opponents: No. 25 Niagara (944-1,107); No. 21 FDU (861-950) and No. 4 North Carolina A&T State (938-1,081).
Saturday (Feb. 10), Howard competed in five traditional matches where the Bison went 3-2 on the day.
HU downed Dominican (N.Y.), 752-707, to open the day, but fell to Mercyhurst, 978-1,032. Howard won back-to-back matchups against Bryant, 1,029-1,008, and New Jersey City (NJCU), 942-808, before falling to rival Norfolk State (NSU), 877-984.
Second-year Bison
Sydney Allison (Ypsilanti, Mich.) led the way, rolling 193.4 in five contests, including a 247 in the victory over Bryant (BU).
Fellow classmate and All-MEAC selection
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago) produced a 182.8 in five traditional matches, including a 242 versus the Bulldogs.
Sophomore
Janae Pugh (Chicago) also put on a solid performance, averaging 179.0, including 225 against BU.
On the final day (Feb. 11), HU fell in six to Kutztown and NSU in Baker best-of-seven, but finished the weekend on a high note, defeating NJCU in seven.
Overall, the Bison took 13
th place.
Mount St. Mary's won the 2024 Mount Shootout, topping Niagara. North Carolina A&T State earned third place.
On Feb. 17-18, Howard travels to Norfolk, Va., for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Meet No. 2, hosted by Norfolk State University.
