Walker Selected to the 2025 Black College Football Hall of Fame

Former Bison standout among recipients to be honored in Atlanta

ATLANTA (December 18, 2024) – The Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHOF) unveiled its six inductees for the Class of 2025 where former Howard University quarterback Jay "Sky" Walker was among the recipients. The announcement came Wednesday.

The inductees were voted on by a nine-member Selection Committee, comprised of prominent journalists, commentators and historians, along with former NFL General Managers and executives and members of the BCFHOF.

"What we have with the Class of 2025 is an incredible showcase of the talent that has come from Historically Black Colleges and Universities over the years," said Black College Football Hall of Fame Co-Founder and 2011 Inductee Doug Williams. "When the Black College Hall of Fame was established, its purpose was to do just this, elevating and recognizing the past, present, and future of Black College Football. Congratulations to the Class of 2025."

After transferring from Long Beach State, Walker became one of the most prolific football names in Howard history. In 1993, he was a two-time All-MEAC First-Team selection and the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Offensive Player of the Year. That season, the Bison went undefeated en route to winning both the MEAC and Black College National Championships. He passed for 3,324 yards, which ranks as the second-highest single-season total in MEAC history and his 223 completions that season rank fifth in conference history. He also threw 24 touchdown passes, tying for the sixth-highest single-season total in MEAC history.

A seventh-round draft pick in 1994 by the New England Patriots, Walker played in the NFL for four seasons (two with the New England Patriots and two with the Minnesota Vikings).

In 2005, Walker was inducted into the Howard University Athletics Hall of Fame. In 2018, he was inducted into the MEAC Hall of Fame.

Currently, Walker works as a college football analyst for ESPN.

The five other inductees joining Walker include Henry Dyer (Grambling State University), Rashean Mathis (Bethune-Cookman University), Jacquay Nunnally (Florida A&M University), Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Tennessee State University) and Coach Fred "Pop" Long (Wiley College).

The 16th Class was selected from a list of 28 Finalists who had been determined earlier by the BCFHOF Selection Committee.

The Class of 2025 will be honored at the 16th Annual Black College Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Presented by the Atlanta Falcons, Saturday (June 7, 2025) in Atlanta.

They will also be recognized at halftime of the Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl Saturday (Feb. 22, 2025) at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans, which will be broadcast live on NFL Network (4 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. CT).
