WASHINGTON (November 16, 2024) – Howard University men's swimming & diving team earned its first win of the season, taking down Mount St. Mary's (MSM), 169-92, inside Burr Gym Pool.
Overall, the Bison won 11 races, including a pair of relays.
Howard opened the afternoon with a victory in the 400 Medley Relay (3:25.05), led by seniors
Tai Afrik (Holland, Mich.) and
Darin Johnson (Atascocita, Texas) and sophomores
Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Kristopher Lawson (Gaithersburg, Md.).
Afrik, Green, junior
Daren Rodgers (Chicago) and
Ibrahima Diouf (Arlington, Va.) also capped off the day, securing gold in the 400 Free Relay with a 3:08.74 time.
Individually, Lawson claimed the top spot in three events: 50 Back (23.55); 50 Free (21.49) and 50 Fly (21.60).
Green and rookie
Jalen Stewart (New Castle, Del.) won a pair of individual events. Green finished first in the 100 Fly (50.20) and 100 Free (46.71) while the Delaware product secured victory in the 200 Free (1:45.11) and 500 Free (4:59.70).
Johnson and newcomer
Mark Brown (Greensboro, N.C.) competed in the 100 IM, placing first (53.29) and third (55.25), respectively.
Other noteworthy performance included second-year Bison
Jack Barr (Nassau, Bahamas) winning the 1000 Free, clocking in at 10:24.42.
On Nov. 22-24, HU goes to Baltimore to compete in the annual GreyH2ounds Invitational, hosted by Loyola (Md.). Morning sessions start at 10 a.m., followed by the evening sessions at 6 p.m.
