JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 25, 2023) – Howard University women's track saw three Bison advance to the NCAA East Regional Quarterfinal Round Thursday evening, moving one step closer to Austin, Texas.
Overall, five Bison competed on the night, led by junior hurdler
Darci Khan (Stockbridge, Ga.). The Georgia native won her heat with a new school record (12.92); thus, moving on to Saturday's quarterfinal round.
Fellow classmate
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) also competed and advanced to the next round after running non AQ time of 13.24.
Kentucky's Masai Russell had the fastest prelim time of 12.40.
All-American senior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) represented HU in the 400-meter hurdles where she earned a spot in the quarterfinal round with an AQ mark of 58.25.
Rookie
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) also took part in the race, but fell short of making Saturday's cut (1:00.81).
Campbell's Chastity Pickett had the best time during the preliminary round, posting a personal best (56.54).
DMV native sophomore
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) performed double-duty Thursday night, running in the 100-meter (11.51) and 200-meter (23.36) dashes. Despite her efforts, the Maryland native came up just short in qualify.
HU opens Saturday's (May 27) quarterfinal round with the 100-meter hurdles at 6:15 p.m., and ends the night with the exciting 4x400 relay race at 8:45 p.m.
