BALTIMORE (April 22, 2023) – Howard University women's track & field team scored three victories in Baltimore, competing in the annual Morgan Legacy, hosted by Morgan State (MSU), and the Hopkins-Loyola Invitational, co-hosted by Johns Hopkins and Loyola (Md.).
MORGAN LEGACY
HU recorded all three wins at Morgan State.
Senior
Melanie White (Orlando, Fla.) won the 1500-meter run with a 4:36.54 mark. Teammate sophomore
Camille Egbula (Simpsonville, S.C.) took third place, clocking in at 4:45.67.
Second-year Bison
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) claimed gold in the 5000-meter run, producing a 18:57.00 time. Senior
Breanna McDonald (Bethesda, Md.) also competed and finished behind Crosby (18:58.21).
Senior
De'ja Dade (DeSoto, Texas) earned the top spot in the 200-meter dash, recording a time of 23.80. Rookie
Kiya Lawson (Montclair, N.J.) placed second overall after Dade with a 23.87 mark.
Sophomore
Jasmyn Hunter (Flossmoor, Ill.) and newcomers
Jazmyn Wajd (Tampa, Fla.) and
Lauren Thompson (Frisco, Texas) reached the 100-meter hurdle final, taking third (13.83), fourth (14.32) and fifth (14.43), respectively.
Sophomore
Lamaria Washington (Miami) and freshman
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) made the 100-meter dash final where they placed third (11.63) and fifth (11.94), respectively.
Other notable performance included senior
Monika Williams (Denver) earning bronze in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.45).
HOPKINS-LOYOLA INVITATIONAL
Several throwers competed in the event, led by senior
Erin Hatcher (Burtonsville, Md.) and rookie
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas). Hatcher placed third overall in the hammer (49.66 meters; 162'11") while the Texas product grabbed bronze in the discus (36.91 meters; 121'1").
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
HU heads to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) for the prestigious Penn Relays (April 27-29).
