LOS ANGELES (March 7, 2023) – Howard University softball team wrapped up its spring break west coast trip with a tough loss at No. 2 UCLA, 4-0, inside Easton Stadium.
The pitching duo of starting pitcher freshman
Ameila Weber (Montclair, Calif.) and reliever
Mia Gonzales (Atwater, Calif.) limited UCLA to four runs on six hits.
UCLA (23-1) opened the contest with a three-run first inning, capped off by a two-run blast from freshman Jordan Woolery.
From that point on, Weber and Gonzales kept UCLA off the board until the sixth inning where sophomore Jayla Castro delivered an RBI-single to left center to extend the lead, 4-0.
HU managed to produce four hits but were unable to get a run home. Second-year Bison
Sidney Fletcher (Whittier, Calif.) registered a multi-hit performance, going 2-of-3 in the loss.
Monday (March 13), Howard returns to The District to face Bryant in a nonconference doubleheader at Nationals Youth Academy. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
