WASHINGTON (February 9, 2023) – Howard University women's bowling team rolls on to Towson, Md., for the eighth annual James Brown Invitational, hosted by conference rival Morgan State University. The event takes place at the AMF Towson Lanes (701 Southwick Drive, Towson, MD, 21286).
The three-day tourney (Feb. 10-12) begins Friday at 10 a.m., followed by another 10 a.m. start time Saturday. Sunday's action commences 8:30 a.m.
TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
This year's 12-team field features six (6) National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) nationally ranked teams in the latest NTCA Coaches Poll: Howard; Morgan State; Alabama A&M; Bryant; Coppin State; Fayetteville State; Felician; Medaille; Maryland Eastern Shore; Mount St. Mary's; North Carolina A&T State and Saint Francis (Pa.).
The event gets underway Friday (Feb. 10) with five (5) Baker matches. Bowling continues Saturday (Feb. 11) first with five (5) Traditional Team matches. The tournament concludes Sunday (Feb. 12) with bracket style play with the best-of-seven Baker match positioning rounds.
The awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the tournament.
LAST TIMEOUT
Last weekend (Feb. 3-4), HU competed in the Griffin Classic, hosted by Chestnut Hill College, where they squad went 3-7 overall.
Howard's two victories came in Baker matches against Felician, 842-741, Holy Family, 774-556. Sunday, the squad defeated Felician in a Baker best-of-seven sweep (4-0).
BISON TO WATCH
Freshman standout
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago) leads the Bison in traditional play, averaging 174.2 pinfall. This season, she has accumulated 3,484 pinfalls with a career-high 221 game at the CSU Lady Eagles Invite (Nov. 19).
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Feb. 18-19, the Bison's season continues in Greensboro, N.C., for the second MEAC Roundup, hosted by the Aggies.
