GENEVA, Ohio (February 24, 2023) – Howard University men's swimming & diving team grew its lead after Day Four of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships, winning three more events on the day.
The 400 Medley Relay squad of seniors
Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) and
Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.) and sophomores
Darin Johnson (Atascocita, Texas) and
Tristan Stevens (Chicago) capped off the night, winning the race with a new facility record (3:16.55).
Individually, Johnson competed in the 100 Breast where he took home gold with a time of 55.32. Third-year Bison
Mark-Anthony Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas), graduate
Miguel Davis, Jr. (Washington) and junior
Langston Weddington (Marietta, Ga.) also took part, claiming third (55.58), sixth (55.97) and eighth (56.17), respectively.
In the 100 Back, senior standout
Miles Simon (Atlanta) earned another gold medal with a 47.80 time. Stevens grabbed the bronze (49.33) while senior
Kevin Claiborne (Queens, N.Y.) placed seventh overall (50.82).
Other notable performances included senior
Reese Samuel (Pittsburgh) and newcomer
Taj Benton (Baltimore) competing in the 200 Fly, clocking in at 1:54.48 (sixth) and 1:55.01 (seventh), respectively.
HU has produced 644 points after four days, extending its lead from 71 to 77 points. LIU holds the second spot with 567 points.
The action wraps up (Feb. 25), beginning with the prelims at 10 a.m., followed by the final round at 6 p.m.
